Foundation Ex: A solid foundation for a sustainable future

Britain has firmly established itself as the world’s leading developer of offshore wind, with just under a gigawatt (GW) of new capacity added in the first half of 2019 and the world’s largest offshore windfarm – Hornsea One – due to be completed next year. That’s why we’re very excited to welcome one of the world’s foremost offshore events to our hometown of Bristol: Foundation Ex.

Foundation Ex: Offshore wind farm

Taking place on 1 October 2019 at the M Shed on Bristol’s historic harbourside, Foundation Ex will explore the entire the life-cycle of an offshore windfarm foundations project. While this may seem like a niche specialism, offshore windfarm foundations are big business. With more than 23GW of offshore wind capacity installed worldwide, they are literally a foundation of the low-carbon transition. 

The event is being brought to Bristol by Empire Engineering, a consultancy supporting the offshore wind industry with advice, insight and technical know-how. With 34% of the world’s offshore wind energy generated in UK waters and with an estimated 27,000 new jobs expected in the industry by 2030, Empire was keen to host the event in the UK. Couple this with Bristol’s rich history of low-carbon leadership, and the city was the obvious choice.

Foundation Ex: Offshore wind farm

Through a series of keynote talks and workshops, major international players, including Arup, SeaRoc and Siemens, will highlight cutting edge technical innovation in offshore wind turbine foundations. Delegates will be able to harness cross-disciplinary understanding and network with experts from around the world.
